Homepage Message: March 2007

The lion and the lamb

You've heard the saying: "March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb." The lion being fierce and powerful while the lamb is mild and defenseless. So we hope the weather, which has resembled a lion as of late will be tamed to that of a lamb, giving way to peaceful spring weather.

Jesus is referred to as the "Lion of the tribe of Judah" (Revelation 5:5). It was a sign of the tribe of Judah from which the Messiah would come. In regard to the forces of evil, Satan and his demons, Jesus was like a lion, fierce and powerful. He had no mercy for spiritual darkness. Demonic beings were rebuked, silenced and bound with everlasting chains until they are thrown into the lake of fire--hell, the second death. Jesus continues to be merciless with the powers of darkness that bring misery and destruction wherever they have freedom.

However, as Jesus gave the death blow to Satan, death and sin He didn't come as a powerful, fearful lion but as a gentle and defenseless lamb. John the Baptist declared about Jesus: "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). Also, "He was like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent so he did not open his mouth" (Isaiah 53:7). It was a lamb that was sacrificed and whose blood protected the Hebrews from the angel of death at the first Passover from Egypt. It was the Lamb that was sacrificed for a sin offering. Though Jesus was powerful and fierce before the powers of darkness, He was the gentle Lamb of God that was nailed to the cross. He did not resist but willingly gave His life for yours. It was His blood sacrifice that has destroyed Satan's power and death. It is His sacrifice that can free you from sin, and eternal death and give you eternal life.

As we slowly see winter give way to the warm temperatures of spring, we will see nature spring back to life. When you give your life to the warm rays of God's loving sonshine, you will discover real life as never before.
