All Hallow's Eve ... a trick or a treat?

All Hallows' Eve ... a trick or a treat?

This is the time of year to enjoy the fruit of your labor: fruit and late-season vegetables, corn, beans and other crops. A time to enjoy the bright colors of red, orange, yellow and brown of autumn leaves. The warm sun also feels so good as we anticipate cooler days ahead.

October is also a month many stores prepare for those who collect candy as they dress up in their favorite Halloween costumes. For most kids it's innocent fun. They dress up as a clown, ghost or their favorite cartoon, carrying their plastic jack-o-lantern from house to house shouting "trick or treat," anticipating a treat, of course.

Then there is the more sinister side of Halloween, people who take seriously the dark side of life. It is the High Holiday for Satanists, an evening for sacrifices and worship of Satan. Unfortunately we live in a time that practices evil and witchcraft everyday through divination, sorcery, psychics, omens, casting spells, tarot cards, Ouija boards and astrology. Those are the activities God condemns in Deuteronomy 18, the very sins that contributed to God’s judgment upon Canaan centuries ago. God and his standards have not changed.

Instead of celebrating Halloween as Satan would have us, we should turn our focus on the Reformation, the eve of All Saints Day or the harvest, anything but evil and darkness. As a last resort don't celebrate Halloween, and if children come to your door, give Christian tracts along with a treat. Educate yourself and your family on the evils of Halloween as celebrated today and point people to the Light of the world who will never trick us but will treat us to His eternal blessings.

If you would like to learn more about Halloween go to the following links: www.probe.org; www.afa.net. Most importantly go to the one who defeated Satan and desires to give you life. May the LORD richly bless you this fall.
