He Is Risen!

Toward the end of winter I received in the mail the first of many-to-come seed catalogs. As I sat in my soft easy chair where I was protected from the howling north winter wind, I was warmed by looking at the vivid red, yellow, green and multi-colored vegetables and flowers. They remind me better days are ahead, that is, warmer days filled with the pleasant smell of freshly cut grass and freshly turned garden soil.

The various seed catalogs reminded me to begin preparation for seed planting in my basement. As I paged through the catalog I saw thirty new flowers, vegetables, herbs, perennials and fruits. Every year there is something new. Have you ever wondered where they come from or how they develop? It isn’t by luck or blind chance, but by deliberate breeding. Within the DNA of a seed there is countless variations. That’s why you can get yellow, pink or burgundy tomatoes in a wide range of sizes.

All this and so much more is clear evidence of a wonderful, intelligent creator who designed everything for a purpose, whether it’s a tree, bacteria or fish. Everyone has a purpose and discovers their wonderful meaning by having a relationship with their creator. Like the fruits, vegetables and flowers around us, mankind also comes in various shapes, sizes, and colors. That is simply how the Lord created the human race. However, unlike the vegetable that may grace your garden, man, being created in the image of God, has an eternal soul that will depart this world at our death. The question is, where will you spend eternity? Will your creator, Jesus Christ, welcome you into his eternal kingdom? Will he recognize you as one of his own?
