Homepage Message: October 2008

Who do you trust? What is true?

Our homepage last month talked about the Bible being reliable and able to tell us about the major historical events in our world. Its history is more reliable than man’s opinions about the past and all the beauty around us is for our enjoyment. We have a very loving and caring God.

However, of all the things he created the greatest is that of mankind. God tells us we are created in his image, and nothing else is. This makes us very unique to our world and special to God. We also have an eternal soul and will live forever. Therefore we are accountable to God as our creator. We are not a god unto ourselves.

This is particularly why evolution is so appealing to people—they are accountable to no one in the end, yet demoralizing to others because they see little value and no purpose for existence. It leaves one with two extremes; in our secular culture there has been a push for the acceptance and endorsement of evolution as the sole explanation of our existence. Darwinian evolution is a major reason the Bible is viewed as untrustworthy. It makes Christianity look outdated, unreliable, proven false by science and of no value in the 21st century.

However, while creation is at the foundation of Christianity and its view of life, evolution is the foundation for nearly every other view of life. So what you believe has consequences and will shape your behavior.

How serious is this view of evolution? February 12, 2009, is the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin. The National Center for Scientific Education and Humanistic science groups are searching for more churches to celebrate evolution. There is also the “clergy letter project” which is busy soliciting funds for a national ad campaign trying to enlist more churches to celebrate Darwinian Evolution in their church.

The goal is indoctrinating more and more Christians to believe the lie of evolution, to doubt God’s word and reject the reliability of the Bible and ultimately turn their back on God. This continued attack against God’s inerrant word begins with the very first verse in Genesis 1 and doesn’t stop there. For it undermines the very gospel of Jesus Christ, the message of salvation and hope for a dying world.

Discover this month the power of Jesus’ love and forgiveness.
