Homepage Message: January 2009
As I write this article the weather forecast is calling for a winter storm to move across Northern Iowa. However for most of the day the sky has been clear and I’ve enjoyed the warmth and brightness of the sun reflecting off the undisturbed blanket of white snow. Storm? Ha! Not a sign of it. Several hours later as I gaze across the southern sky I can see a distinct line of clouds forming the leading edge of the storm front. So far no participation, but it does look promising. Now is the time to prepare for the latest snow fall by shopping for essential food items, snow removal supplies, get home before it hits and gas up the snow blower. For the last fifty days and nineteen to go we have seen the clouds of change creeping across the horizon warning every American that life is about to change. We’ve had time to prepare through education and awareness. We have been told the appointees of the president elect’s administration, giving us an idea of what to expect (Sounds to me like a throwback to the liberal Clinton administration). We also see and experience the effects of reckless spending and greed of the government and corporate CEOs. It is destroying America as we’ve known it and putting our national security at great risk. We are in debt to China to the tune of one-half trillion dollars. Every day we hear of companies moving toward bankruptcy unless our benevolent government offers our hard earned tax dollars to bail them out. Where will it all end? As my mother often told me,“Money doesn’t grow on trees, you know.” Does Washington know this? Does Barack Hussein Obama II know this?! How sad to see our national debt escalate to around eleven trillion dollars, not counting personal debt. Can we continue to spend now and pay later? No, but is anyone listening? Very few, I fear. I’ve also been told and have read from the “Good Book” that “you reap what you sow.” We’ve been sowing rebellion since the 1960s, throwing off all moral restraints and embracing greed and hedonism. How long will our patient and benevolent God endure such rebellion (equal to witchcraft in God’s sight), until he brings judgment upon the greatest nation on earth? If we insist on removing the guiding and life-giving principles of scripture from our culture God will eventually grant our stubborn and selfish request and we will see Christianity as a religion of by-gone years. However, it doesn’t need to be this way. If you love the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior and Lord, and you want to preserve America’s liberty, then we must return to biblical standards and principles and throw political correctness to the wind. We must take stock of our own life and see where we must change and or surrender to the Lord. We also need to come boldly, yet humbly, before the thrown of grace, that God will hear our petitions, cleanse us from sin and restore the Christian freedom and enthusiasm we had originally. God needs to hear from his children and we need to hear from him, after all he is in control of this world and no one can thwart his purpose. Lastly, we must obey scripture and pray for our new president regardless of our political affiliation or disagreements. It’s always best to put what you can’t control into the hands of the one who can. Closing thought: as we see the crippling effects of our mounting debt it’s a reminder to me of our crippling debt to sin. Without a “bailout” we shall remain spiritually bankrupt and ultimately separated from God. The “bailout” we need can come only from Jesus Christ’s payment on the cross. He didn’t use someone else’s money to bring relief from sin’s debt; he used his own blood, more precious than the world’s supply of silver, gold and oil. Also his “bailout” is not temporary but eternal and he does it all at no charge. Does this sound too good to be true? |
