Thank you, Mom

A salute to mothers for all the sacrifices they make to raise their families. They change countless diapers, baths too numerous to count, wipe runny noses and hundreds of loads of wash. They provide taxi service, they are EMTs, chefs, counselors, bankers, friends, disciplinarians, negotiators and much more; as well as a wife and all that entails. If Mom works outside the home, then she is tackling two full time jobs with one providing a pay check and the other paying future dividends.

With all the important responsibilities and favors she carries and, perhaps the most important and influential, is to continually pray for her children by name and steer them toward God.

Moses’ mother had very limited time with Moses before he was raised and taught by Egyptians. Yet later in life he returned to his Hebrew roots.

Mary the mother of Jesus took her responsibility seriously and did all she could to nurture and protect her son. She sacrificed more than most to raise her son that was not Joseph’s and not become bitter from the accusations and gossip that took place surrounding his birth.

“I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” —II Timothy 1:5

Paul mentions Timothy’s grandmother, Lois who had a strong faith in the Lord and was passed on to her daughter Eunice who also was a believer and follower of Christ, both having a strong influence on Timothy. This is an invaluable legacy to pass on.

Does it matter if a family has all the latest fashions, gizmos and an expensive house? Does a fancy car, boat, summer home and exotic vacations ensure the passing on of the faith? No. They are not evil or wrong, just not as important nor a substitute for love, discipline and passing on the faith.

Of course no matter how hard you try to work at being the best mom, there is no guarantee your child may not rebel. They have a free will like all of us and will make their own decisions. That’s why Mom and Dad need to keep them in prayer till the day they die.

To the unsung heroes of the family: Happy Mother’s Day.

Learn about the most loving parent there is!
