Are you hiding?

While reading in the book of Job during the end of June, the verses of Job 34 struck me.

“His eyes are on the ways of men; he sees their every step. There is no dark place, no deep shadow, where evildoers can hide.” —Job 34:21-22

The Living Bible says,

“God carefully watches the goings on of all mankind.” —Job 34:21-22

I was reminded that the Lord sees everything, everyone, all the time. There is nothing or no one that escapes his eye.

“For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” —II Chronicles 16:9

This is a wonderful promise. Wherever you may be, the Lord sees and understands what is going on with you. He can’t forget you nor can he ignore your needs.

Remember Adam and Eve: upon disobeying God, they thought they could hide in the bushes and behind fig leaves. How silly they were and how silly we are to think we, too, can hide from the ever-searching eye of the Almighty. He even sees you reading this article and desires to bless you and come near.

Like Adam who hid from God in the bushes, or Jonah who ran away to a different and distant location, we hide from God, too. We may hide behind a busy schedule, allowing no time for church attendance, bible study or even the thought of God’s rightful place in our life. We hide behind intellectualism. After all we know there is no God and if there is, He surely doesn’t care about us. We can hide behind religion. The elaborate or simple form of worship we have reduced to a mindless ritual. We may hide by avoiding God, thinking we’re too sinful to be accepted, let alone forgiven and loved.

Whatever it is that you think hides you from the ever searching eyes of God, you’re simply fooling yourself. God isn’t searching for you to punish you, but to forgive, heal, love and enter a personal relationship with you. As John 3:17 says:

“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” —John 3:17

The place to begin is to come out of hiding, wherever you are, leave the darkness behind and enter the light of his grace and mercy. The good news is that he sees your heart, knows your mind and understands your thoughts, yet he still loves you. He calls us all to confession and repentance that He might rescue us from death and an empty life.

Do you want to come out of hiding?
