What’s This World Coming To?
Global warming, the coming Ice Age (1970s), tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, cyclones, wildfires, heat waves, record cold, flooding and greenhouse gases. These are words we hear daily describing our earth’s climate and environment. Couple that with nuclear holocaust, serial killer, tolerance, separation of church and state, school shooting, bankruptcy, spiraling gas prices, war, slowing economy, national (socialized) health care, homosexual “rights,” terrorism, boarder control, greed, corporate scandal and the list could go on. These are words describing a world, a country, a society in a serious crisis. Where will it end? How will it end? What do we have to look forward to?
According to the Bible the world will not burn up due to greenhouse gases or a nuclear holocaust. It will not be plunged into a deep freeze of another Ice Age. Man will not destroy this world by anything he does or does not do, the least being the emission of carbon dioxide from our cars! The hysteria we hear on the news and from the liberal left, and some right, is primarily from a humanistic worldview where there is no God who is active in man’s affairs or the world. Man is in control of his future and he thinks he can control the climate. Nonsense! To the contrary, there is a loving, personal God who cares about all of us and he wants you and me to know he has everything under control. He alone will bring this world to an end on his time schedule.
“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.” —II Peter 3:10-12
Not only will the earth be “cleansed by fire,” it will be replaced with a new earth and heaven. “But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.” — 2 Peter 3:13 “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.” —Revelation 21:1
This world is going somewhere and it’s not in circles. It is moving ahead to its consummation when Jesus Christ with his nail-pierced hands and feet will return to earth and resurrect every man that ever lived and assign him to his eternal destination; the destination he chose while on earth.
“Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out—those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.” —John 5:28-29
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.” —John 3:16-18
There is hope for the future and it doesn’t rest in man’s wisdom or power, government programs or a national/world leader. It rests in the hands of Almighty God who paid the price for your sin and rose from the dead. There is nothing on earth, or beyond, that can sever your personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” —Romans 8:38-39
Even as life becomes increasingly difficult and economic cut-backs are all around, we can be sure God will provide for our needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” —Philippians 4:19 “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’” —Hebrews 13:5
As Christians we serve a powerful God who wants more than anything to have us in heaven for all eternity. He loves you just as you are, so do not be afraid, come to him and give him everything.

Welcome to pilotknob.org ...
Thanks for visiting. We're excited about what pilotknob.org can offer to both members of Pilot Knob Lutheran and the surrounding community. There are many churches in the North Iowa area, each with its unique ability of serving in the Body of Christ. We pray you find the congregation God has chosen for you to serve.
We encourage you to not only take a look around, but also tell us about your visit: how you use the web site, and what you'd like to see added to pilotknob.org. We desire to be a resource for the Christian and non-Christian alike. Thank you, and may God enrich your day.
